Lookout Discovers Android Spyware Deployed in Kazakhstan

Sophisticated malware tooling designed to provide surveillance capabilities to nation states

LONDON, U.K.: Lookout, Inc. has announced the discovery of an enterprise-grade Android surveillanceware currently used by the government of Kazakhstan within its borders. Lookout researchers also found evidence of deployment of the spyware – which Lookout researchers have named “Hermit” – in Italy and in northeastern Syria.

99 per cent of surveyed IT decision makers have a backup strategy in place, yet are failing to recover data

Over seventy per cent of surveyed IT decision makers have had to recover data from backups

MANCHESTER, UK: Almost all (99%) of surveyed IT decision makers state they have backup strategies in place, but just over a quarter (26%) have admitted they were unable to fully restore all data/documents when recovering from a backup. This is according to an annual survey conducted in April 2022 by Apricorn, the leading manufacturer of software-free, 256-bit AES XTS hardware-encrypted USB drives.
