Addis Ababa: Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, has condemned in the strongest possible terms the dastardly terrorist attacks on innocent civilians at the Westgate Shopping Centre in Nairobi on Saturday, September 21st, killing about 68 persons and leaving 175 wounded
Dr. Dlamini-Zuma stated that the cowardly attack, for which the al Qaeda-linked Al - Shabaab group had claimed responsibility, once again underlined the imperative for renewed and reinvigorated efforts to combat terrorism throughout the continent.
She reiterated the AU’s commitment to continue working with its Member States and partners in the war on terror.
Dlamini-Zuma expressed the solidarity of the AU with the government and people of Kenya and expressed the AU’s heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, whilst wishing the injured speedy recovery.
Also, she again pledged the AU’s commitment to sustain its efforts in combating terror of all kinds throughout the continent as well pursuing its efforts to stabilize the situation in Somalia and the fight against Al – Shabaab through its Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
Meanwhile, Kenyan Defence sources claimed most of the hostages had been rescued, giving a ray of hope to other expectant relatives whose loved ones are still being held by the beasts.
