Berlin: For 10 years, German lottery company “WestLotto” has been encrypting emails with Zertificon's Z1 SecureMail Gateway – currently version 4.7 – and is one of Zertificon's first clients. Westlotto was the driving force behind the introduction of the Z1 products for secure email communication throughout the German lottery and Eurojackpot companies. A detailed case study can be found on the Zertificon website.
Secure communication between Germany's lottery companies is essential for guaranteeing the integrity of the lottery and fair-play. Originally, the companies used dedicated ISDN connections – a complicated and time consuming process. During business development planning WestLotto discovered the Gateway solution from Zertificon, which thanks to its extensive functionality, ease of use and cost effectiveness was not only able to win the tender process against two competitors, but was selected as the standard encryption solution for the complete German lottery.
Based upon a flexible and configurable set of policies, the Gateway automatically signs and encrypts outgoing mails and decrypts and validates signatures for incoming mails. Employees no longer have to worry about email encryption and can focus on their day-to-day tasks instead. The centralized certificate management ensure an efficient processing of email traffic and removes the need for manual searching, validation and publishing of X.509 certificates and PGP public keys.
All Eurojackpot companies encrypt with Zertificon
Thanks to their positive experience with the encryption products, WestLotto started in 2010 to push for the encryption of winner details and game-data for the europe-wide Eurojackpot. As a result, all Eurojackpot companies in 16 countries now use the solutions from Zertificon for encryption and future lottery companies are required to integrate the Z1 SecureMail Gateway in order to ensure smooth and secure email communication within the Eurojackpot.
