Two out of three UK companies (66%) suffered brute force attacks against Microsoft 365 accounts during the past three months – up from 48% in the first quarter, according to bluedog Security Monitoring.

It reports that around 8% of all companies suffered breaches in the second quarter as a result of the attacks. bluedog has also seen a 22% rise in phishing attacks targeting the creation of apps within Azure. It believes every company is now being targeted at least once a week by this type of attack and in some cases, five or six times a day.

Repeat offender, Robert Dass, a former Luton security boss has paid a significant confiscation order after being found guilty of operating illegally for the second time.

On 15 July 2020 Robert Dass, was fined £1800 for two counts of contravention of the Private Security Industry Act 2001 and ordered to pay prosecution costs of £7,029.50 at Harrow Crown Court. The court also heard that Dass has already satisfied a confiscation order related to these offences totalling £8,654.70. This resulted from the Security Industry Authority's (SIA) pursuit of Dass' criminal benefit for unlicensed business dealings in accordance with the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (POCA).
