IN its drive to encourage more persons, no matter their professional or vocational background to volunteer their services, the Metropolitan Police will hold its open event on Saturday, 8th May 2010 at Queen Mary University between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
According to the Met the open event will offer prospective volunteers the opportunity to hear first hand why being a special constable is a unique and exciting volunteer role that will provide them with skills for life.
Attendees at the open event will also get the chance to ask and receive answers to their questions and find out how they can really make a difference. At the open event special constables will be on hand to share their experiences and offer perspective on why they have given their spare time to make London a safer place.
Those who eventually make up their minds to volunteer 25 hours of their time monthly, and are successful during the intake often receive all the training and support they need to become volunteer police officers. Special constables enjoy the same power and wear the same uniform as the regular police officers.
