“When we first launched, we didn’t just want to be another kids’ activity provider,” said Sital. “As parents ourselves, we saw firsthand how important technology became during the pandemic. With everyone glued to screens, kids were suddenly much more involved as consumers. We wanted to flip that around and make technology a positive, active experience. Our goal has always been to help kids become creators, not just consumers, in this screen-heavy world, while developing future-proof skills that will benefit them in every aspect of life.”
“People often think coding is boring, but it’s actually super creative – especially when it comes to designing video games, characters and stories. It’s incredible to see what kids come up with. Unlike just playing Fortnite, where they aren’t really using those skills, coding lets them create something from scratch and feel a real sense of achievement.”
At Code Ninjas, kids learn how to code in a safe, inclusive and social learning environment where gaming is celebrated and STEM is cool. With the help and encouragement from Senseis – the name given to instructors – Code Ninjas allows kids to dive into fun, challenging and rewarding projects and activities that will engage them and bring out skill sets that will benefit them as they grow.
While helping their ninjas – Code Ninjas’ affectionate name for their students – level up in their coding skills, Sital and the team have also been busy levelling up their Senseis. Many of these instructors began as Ninjas themselves and worked their way up to become Senseis like those who once guided them.
“We’ve had four students who’ve gone on to become Senseis, and one of them is just 14 and already volunteering with us,” explained Sital. “It’s incredible to see how the confidence they built as a ninja has now made them the very Senseis who used to inspire them. A lot of kids struggled socially after the pandemic, and our Senseis have been key in helping them open up, support each other and build those connections. They’re not just teaching coding – they’re mentoring, encouraging ambitions and really helping our students grow. I couldn’t be prouder of them.”
And the support students have received from Senseis over the past four years could not be praised enough. One student shared, “I’ve been a ninja at Code Ninjas Langley for over three years and, throughout that time, I’ve really appreciated all the help and guidance from my Senseis. Thanks to their support, I’ve been able to reach my Red Belt, and I’m still enjoying every session just as much as I did on day one. I owe a lot of that to the Senseis!”
Looking ahead, the Code Ninjas Langley team is focused on continuing to offer a safe, fun and supportive space where kids can dive into coding, build friendships, and come out of their shell. “It’s so heartwarming to see students who’ve never met before becoming friends and finding real connections,” said Sital. “Our self-taught, self-paced curriculum creates a nurturing environment where they can really thrive.
“Code Ninjas has always been for those kids who don’t quite fit into traditional activities like football or music. Parents often struggle to find something that suits their child’s needs, and we’re proud to offer a place where communication challenges can be worked through, all while learning to code. I can’t wait to see our dojo, our Ninjas, and our Senseis continue to grow stronger and stronger.”
