A local community space and café in London has been awarded with Burg-Wächter’s ‘Secure Community Scheme,’ allowing them to receive free security products to help keep their building secure.
The Hornbeam Centre in Walthamstow applied for Burg-Wätcher’s ‘Secure Community Scheme’ after a garden break-in meant their previous gate lock was broken and unusable, putting the space at risk to more anti-social behaviour.
To help reduce the risk of any further break-ins, Burg-Wächter sent the group multiple long shackle combination padlocks for use on the gate and around the centre. The solid brass body and double-bolted stainless steel shackle make the padlock great for outdoor use, ideal for strong weather influences and heavy duty protection.
The Hornbeam is a local community food distribution centre and café, used by members of the community. The café, called The Gleaners, is a pay-what-you-can café based at the centre, using surplus produce to make plant-based meals. They work with other local environmental and sustainability organisations to tackle local food waste, and as well as using surplus produce in their café, they also distribute food to other community groups and food banks.
Jess Brownrigg, Volunteer and Food Hub Coordinator at The Hornbeam Centre, said: “After our backyard was broken in to and trashed, we realised they had broken the padlock to get in. When we replace our padlocks it’s typically last minute and they aren’t the best quality, so to have this heavy duty option from Burg-Wächter, plus spare ones, has been great.
“These padlocks have provided us with peace of mind that our gate is now secure when the centre is closed. We’re thankful to Burg-Wächter for sending these to us and we’d recommend other community groups apply for the ‘Secure Communities Scheme’ for security support.”
Burg-Wächter's Secure Communities Scheme gives regional charities and community groups the chance to win a security kit worth up to £200 for their organization. Any regional initiative that is run by or supports the local community can apply.
Burg-Wächter launched the scheme in recognition of the fact that people around the country who are doing their bit for their community should not have to worry about the security of their premises, equipment, or storage areas. The company's Secure Communities Scheme is its way of saying thank you to community leaders for supporting people in their area.
The type of project or organisation that the scheme is open to is very wide-ranging. If the initiative is run by or supports the local community, and it has a specific security need, Burg-Wächter would like to hear about it. Successful applicants will each receive a tailored security kit to help secure property, premises, equipment, or storage areas to the value of £150 - £200 at retail price.
The Secure Communities Scheme is an ongoing initiative, which has already helped over 100 regional causes through the provision of over 2,000 pieces of security equipment.
