This is a dire need in the corporate industry in today, where security operations have become intertwined and indispensable from corporate functions or activities. Managers and supervisors at all levels in any corporate entity should undergo a basic security management course to acquaint them with the duties and functions of security.
The training will surely assist these persons to have the basic security awareness and procedures of the functions of their establishment and what is expected of them. For example, co-operating with access control procedures which includes documentation of various logs e.g. Visitors, vehicle and material movement, time books, key control, late night workers, display of company I.D. cards and tags, etc, is a very important source of security reference and information which can be referred to at any time, but which may appear as unnecessary delay and work at first. Only later is the usefulness of such documents appreciated by those who criticise this procedures when valuable references need to be made.
The training is very important because these corporate establishments are managed by these category of persons who are in a position to make decisions and policies which affects these establishments periodically and these decisions can override security concerns. More so, these decisions can have far reaching effects and if it is ill advised or unprofessional it will surely have a negative one. For example a manager recommending the sack of a security supervisor and the entire gate house crew because an aggrieved client walked away from the company gates because he is in a hurry to see the manager and so does not want to be delayed, that is, not processed by security!
This course or training will certainly eliminate these rash decisions and make such persons see the relationship between the operations of their establishments and that of security and also how it can be improved upon because no establishment can function properly without security activities;right from the simple schools, churches, hospitals, to the more complex corporate settings of the multinationals, all need security functions.
Those which do not have security, usually have one or more personnel partly doing security duties out of necessity with some difficulties. This is why the big corporate firms have a well defined security department and laid down policies to cope with its operations.
More important is the overall aim of this training or course, which is to give the persons concerned a basic security awareness just as the safety awareness is. This will go a long way in assisting security operations in our corporate establishments and make it corporate friendly.
