A poem marking the 10th Anniversary of 9/11
And the tears flow again
Gushing down my cheeks
Like the Meribah waters
And the tears flow again
Cascading down my cheeks
Like the falling waters of Victoria
Flowing down intractably and inconsolably
And the tears flow again
Bringing back that sad memory
Caused by the children of violence
Children born and nurtured in strife
Children who never knew love
And incapable of giving it
Children born and nurture in hatred
And brought up to hate humanity.
And the tears flow again
As I remember September the 11th, 2001
And the tears flow again
As I reconstruct the first iron bird
Flown into the Twin Towers
Flowing more and more cascading down
As I visualise in my mind’s eye the second
Attacking the Pentagon.
But how can hate-filled minds preaching
The gambit ideology value another life?
But how, how can they,
They whose zeal is not according to knowledge
Appreciate the oneness of humanity?
How, how can such monsters
Beastly in all that they think, say and do
Fathom man’s exalted divinity?
But how can they who have grass on their minds
How can they with forested minds
How can they with rubbish and garbage on their minds
Mind the sanctity of life?
And the tears flow again
And the tears flow again
And the tears flow again
With lightening speed
And I remember I’m America
Constant as the northern stars
Indestructible America
Unconquerable America
Democracy-loving America
Freedom-loving America
Life-loving America
Humanity-loving America
America, consumed with the zeal for fatherland
Land of the free
America, land of free enterprise
Even though these tears
Will again and again flow every season
One thing I will remember the most is not 9/11,
But the fact that I’m America
And I have a story
I have a story to tell
About the American dream
I have a storey to tell about the great American Dream
I have a story to tell about the limitless opportunities that abound
I have a story to tell the perpetrators of violence
About the oneness of humanity
I have a story to tell
And that story is about love
Yes, the tears will flow again,
But I’m not discouraged,
Yes, the tears will flow again
But I am hopeful,
Yes, the tears will flow again,
Not of sadness, but of joy
Yes, 9/11 is a reality
But it cannot change me because I am America
Though 9/11 has altered history,
It has not altered my way of life because I’m America!
As I leave the Ground Zero to return here next season
To those who made it happen, I say I’m not intimidated
They want me to leave in fear perpetual,
But the American heart has no place for fear.
Yes, I return home from Ground Zero,
Rejoicing that I’m not defeated
I return home from Ground Zero
With joy that my children are now at home resting
Those who made 9/11possible are neither friends, nor foes
And to the freedom-loving people in all realms and climes
I call on you to spread love and invest in the Peace Fund!
I am America.
