Vigilance can report that on Wednesday 27 July, officers from Camden Police's St Pancras & Somers Town Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT) with British Transport Police (BTP) took part in partnership patrols at St Pancras Station as part of the celebrations to mark the one-year countdown to the 2012 Olympic Games.
It is said St Pancras Station will be one of the key transport hubs for people visiting the games and BTP officers based at the station, as well as the local Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT), are there to ensure that security is maintained and the railway is free from disruption.
BTP's Inspector Julian Dixon said: "St Pancras is a key hub for domestic and international train routes and this station is going to be a hive of activity this time next year as a lot of the Olympic traffic will pass through this station. "Today's high-profile event was a great opportunity for the officers to carry out joint patrols, as well as highlighting to the travelling public and rail staff that we are covering all bases when it comes to security at the station. "In preparing for the Olympics, we are also in constant dialogue with our colleagues in the rail industry, the Olympic Delivery Authority and Camden Council. "Everyone has their part to play in delivering an excellent sporting event, especially in terms of security, and only by working in partnership will we be able to achieve this."
Whist Sergeant Gary McGovern, from Camden Police's Safer Neighbourhoods Team added, "My team has built a very productive and important relationship with the BTP St Pancras Neighbourhood policing team. Over the last three years we have carried out joint operations, patrols and community events, in addition to supporting each other in different ways promoting a key joint relationship within St Pancras and Somers Town.
"Sergeant Steve Smith from St Pancras International and I, are keen to ensure that our ward and stations, including Kings Cross, benefit from both Neighbourhood Teams working together so that we can contribute in making a safe and enjoyable Olympics from St Pancras. Lord Coe kindly thanked both services for their efforts."
