BRETHREN, my heart desire and prayer to God...is that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. (Romans10: 1-2).
We remember the event of September the 11th, 2001 with a heavy heart and our eyes full of tears for the broad family of mankind, while our hearts go out to all those persons across the globe who lost their loved ones in that madness. After that beastly and sanguinary event, we shudder to think this was the world God intended, and reflect in disbelief that the present man was the one God actually intended.
As we look back today in anger we would like to ask all persons across the globe that still has their exalted divinity intact and those who still have their sanity in place this one question: “Is this man really the one God created in His own image? If the answer is yes, why then has he sunk so low to such a bestial and sanguinary level?
But why did 9/11 happen? No, we are not in for the cheap answers of a clash of civilization, an attempt to halt the spread of westernism across the globe including the Islamic world; no, not even the puerile argument of American and British occupation and their destabilization of governments in some parts of the Moslem world. Before we are mistaken and misrepresented, we hasten to add that in this editorial we are looking at the current spiritual degeneration in a universe we strongly hold was created by God, hence under our scrutiny and unsparing condemnation are non-Sate actors terrorism as occurred on September 11th, 2001 and State terrorisms carried out by powerful States such as the US, Britain, Russsia, China, etc against weaker States which tend to promote the philosophy of “Might is right.” We are not even stopping at Al-Qaeda/Taliban-like terrorism or State aggressions carried out by powerful nations against smaller nations before the very ‘eyes’ of the United Nations.
Of much interest to us also, is the ideological and political mission of the global jihadists and the VERY way they are going about it throughout the world. We say unequivocally that if this very editorial does not serve as a wakeup call to all conscientious humanity, particularly the Western world which now are in deep slumber, appearing to be under a spell, while their core values are gradually being eroded by forces within Islam who see themselves on a mission to Islamise the world. And we condemn in its entirety the method of violence and intimidation which these ideological and political elements within Islam often adopt at the slightest provocation, rushing onto the streets in a tsunami-like speed to make bonfires, burn flags, kill, maim and destroy!
It becomes the more disheartening especially, in the face of multiplicity of Inter Faith Organisations which abound in every nook and cranny of the world. Where there is respect for life, recognition of God in every human being, dialogue and robust debate in an age of expanded communications ought to be the best way to engage those who hold different views from them and their religion, instead of always being ready to shed blood because of such differences. It should be echoed again and again by those who will read this editorial to the political and ideological Islamists that the right of every human being to hold their own distinct views is non-negotiable and this is an entrenched provision in the United Nations Charter on Human Rights and in the constitutions of all nations of the world including the theocratic States.
We are also very concerned about all forms of violence against one form of life or another as it has suddenly become fashionable to kill fellow human beings, maltreat and kill animals, pets inclusive, in order to gain sensational headlines in the global media. The bottom line in all of these beastly tendencies is that if we all, at all times exhibit our exalted divinity with our hearts and minds focussed on universal altruism, there will be peace and harmony in our world and our world will be a better place in which to live.
The operating phrase we would like to dwell on is “universal altruism”, the dearth of which explains the pervasiveness of violence in human community. September 11, 2001 was a possibility because the perpetrators of that inexplicable act lacked it; it is possible for America and Britain to embark on wars in modern times because these two countries lack it.
Why did the US and Britain embark on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan-wars that have claimed lives whose actual statistics they have hidden from the rest of the world? Again, the simple answer is that America and Britain lack universal altruism. Russia and China could embark on unwarranted aggressions against neighbouring weaker States demanding independence from them because; these two countries too lack universal altruism. Going back in time: The various wars that had been fought by human beings, including the Crusaders’ bestiality and irrationality extending to modern times, the First and Second World Wars and such other wars going on in some parts of the world at this time have been possible due to the dearth of universal altruism. And anyone who has their ears to the ground will hear the echo of the Third World War from the distant horizon at this as no human being has the grace to turn the other cheek for too long!
All terrorist activities carried out in Pakistan, India, Spain, Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere in and around the world were possible because the protagonists of such barbarisms lack universal altruism; pockets of wars in Africa and elsewhere in the world are possible because those who embark on such wars lack universal altruism; the Rwanda genocide, Darfur genocide, killings in Liberia, in the Democratic Republic of Congo and wherever such killings have existed and still do exist because the actors of these satanic acts lack universal altruism. It does not make it less severe, worrisome and condemnable if you choose to refer to it as ethnic cleansing-all these inhumanities of man to man are a possibility because the modern man lacks universal altruism.
But what God/Allah will ask such fiends as the perpetrators of 9/11 to send over 2, 996 souls to their untimely graves leaving their loved ones and the world in perpetual anguish and sorrow and ultimately sowed the seeds of suspicion, discord and hatred in human community? Is this God/Allah whom terrorists often claim sent them on evil mission of causing mass destruction to humanity so weak and powerless that he cannot kill his enemies by himself? The question then is, what rational human being will worship such a God/Allah? Such a God/Allah if it is true he is the one that sends terrorists on assignments, or it is the very God/Allah whom it has been said promised these extremists Aljanah and many virgins, therefore this very God/Allah certainly has no place in human hearts and community in modern times. This God/Allah, repeat, this God/Allah can certainly not be the true God, but a god fit for the trash can! So why should anyone worship a “God” who is incapable of fighting his enemies by himself?
The fact that all true Moslems and Christians, animists, atheists, Buddhists, agnostics, etc, in and around the world are united with one voice in their condemnation of terrorisms shows that such a ‘God/Allah’ is useless, and all humanity do not need him.
These jihadists/extremists often inveighs westernism and boasts that they are out to Islamise the world, and also to avenge American and British occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan, but do they know Islam is a religion of peace? Do they know you conquer by stooping? If they want to islamise the world and if this is their genuine conviction and assignment from their Creator, our candid advice: Let them do this islamisation of the world with love and in peace. Peradventure, they are actually out to avenge American and British occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan including their open and tacit support for Israel, our advice yet again is: Love for violence. Let them adopt non-violence method because from Jesus, through Gandhi to Martin Luther King Jnr., it has remained the most potent method used in conquering one’s aggressors.
The fact that terrorists could be so brazen and carry out fatal violence all over the world may mean their lack of confidence in that world body called the United Nations, and it shows fundamentally how very weak that world body is or has become.
Also, in rushing as if after Noah’s Ark to Iraq and later to Afghanistan without consulting the United Nations, America and Britain had not only shown utter contempt for the UN, but might be saying the UN as is currently is, has outlived its usefulness, so needs to be reconstituted. If this is a world body anyone should be proud of in modern times, we would like to ask: Where was the UN when Rwanda happened? Where was the UN when Darfur became a possibility? We would also like to ask, where was the UN when America and Britain exploded in Iraq and Afghanistan?
And for all those who believe in redeeming violence with violence, we ask: Since September 11th, 2001 is the world any better? We do not think so. If anything, terrorist activities have gone up geometrically, and will get worse over the years with more blood and mass destructions in all the streets of Europe, and all over the world. According to www.religionofpeace.com, since 9/11, over 16,030 deadly Islamic terrorist activities have been carried out. These figures may be more, but certainly not less!
So what indeed has changed since 9/11? Nothing! Have the terrorists become sober and adopted universal altruism in dealing with their fellow human beings? No!
Are Christians and Moslems still living like cats and dogs in a world created by God? Yes!
So what is the purpose of having Faith without love, and zeal without knowledge?
