Only 45% of CIOs report that they test security systems and procedures provided by cloud vendors

· Security issues remain the biggest concern for CIOs migrating their systems to the cloud

· Vast majority (84%) of CIOs are either concerned or very concerned about cybersecurity

LONDON: Cybersecurity tops CIO’s concerns, with 84% of CIOs stating that they are either concerned or very concerned about the risks associated with IT security breaches. Yet while security issues remain the biggest concern that CIOs have about migrating their technology functions to the cloud, less than half (45%) test cloud vendors’ security systems and procedures.

For secure data transmission both inside and outside networks, CenterTools has certified IGEL Universal Desktop thin clients running IGEL Linux for use with DriveLock. In addition, IGEL has already integrated the DriveLock Channel into its thin client operating system.

Reading, UK: USB devices connected to IGEL thin clients have been approved for use with DriveLock, the endpoint security solution from CenterTools GmbH. The certification is the result of a wide-ranging partnership agreement between CenterTools GmbH, the international IT and data security specialist and IGEL Technology, the European thin client manufacturer. DriveLock centrally monitors and controls the USB interfaces on the IGEL thin clients without the need to directly install an application locally on these endpoint devices. With DriveLock in operation, companies can protect themselves against data loss and malware attacks without restricting employees’ flexibility or impacting productivity. The solution is ideal for organizations that want to protect mission-critical data when using IGEL thin clients in cloud computing environments.

G Data expects significantly more targeted attacks as well as Mac and Android malware

Bochum (Germany): At the end of the year experts at G Data SecurityLabs are taking a moment to look both back and forward at IT security, attacks and cyber crime. In 2012, online criminals were opting for particularly intelligent malware and delivering more on quality rather than quantity. G Data expects a continuation of this trend next year and presumes that the perpetrators will also continue to target attacks on companies and institutions. To do so, they will also be exploiting the private mobile devices of employees who have access to the company network as an attack vector. In 2013, the security experts also see the perpetrators targeting users of mobile devices and Mac users to a greater extent. Malware for Apple computers has long been out of the testing stage. Furthermore, exploit kits are increasingly being mass-produced; there is no longer any need for expert knowledge to use them. With regard to the cyber war that is so often talked of, G Data can give an all-clear signal: spyware attacks, yes - cyber war, no! G Data has summarised all the trends and forecasts for next year in the IT Security Barometer for 2013.

An Egyptian hacker who calls himself ViruS_HimA is claiming to have breached Yahoo’s security systems following similar attacks on other companies. He allegedly has full access to the servers for at least two of Yahoo’s domains.
