The Defence Secretary Philip Hammond recently welcomed Lord Levene’s first annual review of progress against the recommendations of the Defence Reform Review.

In a letter to the Secretary of State, Lord Levene congratulated the Ministry of Defence on strong progress made against the 53 recommendations since the publication of the Defence Reform Report and said that he believes the programme is being run with genuine urgency.

The festive spirit has arrived onboard HMS Protector, the Royal Navy’s 5,000 tonne Ice Patrol Ship. After breaking ice for the first time this Austral Summer, 20 members of HMS Protector’s Ship’s Company took to the ice dressed as Santa Claus in support of the Ship’s affiliated charity, East Anglian Children’s Hospice. The Santas, accompanied by Rudolph, were gathered at 10am for a gentle warm up led by the Executive Officer, Commander Don Mackinnon, currently in command for this Antarctic Patrol, before it was “on your marks, get set, ….ho ho ho”.
