A new naval air defence system that can intercept and destroy enemy missiles is to be manufactured in the UK under a £250 million MoD contract that will sustain hundreds of jobs, Vigilance can report.

Sea Ceptor, which will be fitted to the Royal Navy’s Type 23 frigates and in future, the Type 26 Global Combat Ship, is a cutting edge missile designed and built by MBDA. Capable of travelling at speeds of more than 2000 miles an hour, it will be able to intercept multiple targets and protect an area out to a range of 25km.

Defence Secretary Philip Hammond last week visited a military port to witness the return of dozens of armoured vehicles from Afghanistan, Vigilance can report.

According to a source at the MoD the Defence Secretary arrived at the Marchwood Sea Mounting Centre, near Southampton, as a total of 94 vehicles were unloaded following transit from a port in the Middle East. The source said the latest delivery meant that more than 1,000 vehicles and pieces of major equipment had been redeployed from Afghanistan to date, adding thus far, more than 1,080 vehicles and pieces of major equipment have been redeployed to the UK, alongside 1,570 containers of materiel from Afghanistan.

Last week in Geneva, the United Nations-Arab League Joint Representative Lakhdar Brahimi held  a meeting with senior officials from Russia and the United States which sought a diplomatic alternative instead of resorting to military actions in resolving the Syrian imbroglio, especially the dismantling of the chemical weapons which the Syrian State under the wild donkey Al-Bashir Assad had unleashed on his hapless compatriots on August 21, 2013.
