Story of unsung WWI hero...providing new insight into history

Lawrence Brodley’s grandfather, Benjamin William Badcock, was an ordinary man who lived through extraordinary times. Born into a military family, it was no surprise that Badcock enlisted himself in 1897. What ensued was a dangerous and glowing career through the Boer War, garrison in the UK and finally WW1. Told sensitively by Brodley, his grandfather’s story is one of the most complete and authoritative accounts of this period ever made public.

Protection at source: Bennet hypermarkets reduce shrink and improve shopping experience with Checkpoint Systems

Checkpoint Systems has announced that hypermarket retailer Bennet has completed the roll out of electronic article surveillance (EAS) loss prevention solutions in their stores in Italy.

The solution involves the installation of 1,000 P20 EAS antennas from Checkpoint’s EVOLVE solutions – as well as radio frequency (RF) tags, Alpha high-theft solutions and point-of-sale deactivators – in addition to the rollout of an RF source-tagging programme aimed at increasing on-shelf availability, improving open merchandising while reducing labour costs and inventory shrink.

“This is a huge month for Internet Explorer updates with a total of 59 CVEs being resolved. Amongst these MS has released a fix for an IE 8 bug which was reported through HP’s Zero Day Initiative back in October 2013. Although no attacks have been detected in the wild, the ZDI advisory has given attackers a head start understanding this vulnerability, possibly reducing the time required for researchers to reverse engineer the fix and devise exploit code.

State of Delaware Division of Family Services adopts GuardianMPS technology to protect caseworkers

Belfast, UK: Guardian24 has confirmed that it’s US subsidiary - GuardianMPS - has enabled the Division of Family Services (DFS) in the State of Delaware to become the first state-wide agency to adopt its award winning Mobile Personal Safety (MPS) solution. The GuardianMPS solution effectively transforms a broad range of cell and smart phones into a personal panic/alarm device. With GuardianMPS the user can call in to enter a start and end time for their appointments. If the user ‘overstays’ their current appointment, GuardianMPS will contact them to confirm all is well. When a worker is unable to enter a PIN or enters a duress code then the system moves to ‘alarm status’. GuardianMPS can then dial into the phone (while it appears to be off), listen live to what is happening, and advise the police or relevant responders as needed.
