London, UK: MDS Technologies has teamed up with Becrypt to supply a secure remote access platform via its G-Cloud 5 CloudStore. Becrypt’s tVolution can be installed on a wide range of devices including laptops, tablets and USB sticks and offers a flexible and cost effective way to deliver secure connections to the Public Services Network (PSN) for staff working remotely. The joint solution has been delivered in response to specific requirements from MDS’ customers and partners, and is a prime example of agile SMEs working together to harness the G-Cloud to deliver services that meet the evolving needs of government and public sector organisations.

Costa Mesa, California: Emulex Corporation has announced the results of a study of 547 European and US network and security operations (NetOps and SecOps) professionals, which found that 45% of IT staff monitor network and application performance manually, instead of implementing proven network monitoring tools. The study, which was conducted during the spring of 2014, also found that 77% of respondents have reported the root cause of a network or security event to their executive team that turned out to be incorrect. Overall, 73% of surveyed IT staff said they currently have unresolved network events.

Campbell argues that many local authorities don’t know what G-Cloud is – a lot of them think it's a product. In fact, only 70 councils surveyed could identify specific jobs or contracts they would use G-Cloud for. In just over 600 words, Campbell suggests that cloud services have the potential to revolutionise the public sector but G-Cloud isn't helping local authorities and councils to gain access to the leading edge cloud providers they need. Demand doesn’t necessarily create itself.
