London, UK: Launching this year’s campaign for HackFu, its annual cyber security event, MWR InfoSecurity is once again throwing down the gauntlet to security enthusiasts with the HackFu Challenge.
The winner of the eleventh annual ADS Security Innovation Award has been announced as Symetrica for their Discovery RPM – Radiation Portal Monitors.
The Award was presented to Heddwyn Davies, CEO of Symetrica by the Security Minister, the Rt Hon John Hayes MP at a ceremony which took place at Farnborough this week.
Symetrica’s RPM increases operational efficiency when screening vehicles and cargo at ports and borders for radioactive threats. For primary screening, it reduces nuisance alarms by 84%, saves time by classifying radiation sources effectively and ensures only necessary secondary investigation takes place.
The Guardian has reported that Ofcom, the media regulator, has suffered the biggest breach in its history involving the misuse of data that was downloaded by an employee before leaving the company. The former employee offered a large amount of sensitive information to his new employee, a major broadcaster.
Today, security firms have warned about a sudden huge surge in junk mail messages containing Ransomware, in particular a strain called Locky, produced only two weeks ago and is now the second most prevalent form. Currently, Locky asks for 3 bitcoins (£885) as payment for the decryption key.
