London, UK: Unisys Corporation has been recognised by Amazon Web Services (AWS) as one of its first partners to achieve AWS Government Competency, a new component of the AWS Competency Program which highlights companies demonstrating technical proficiency and success in delivering specialised cloud-based solutions on AWS to customers.
Langmeil, Germany: The Supervisory Board of Mobotix has a new chairman. Yuji Ichimura, Executive Officer of Konica Minolta, Inc. (“Konica Minolta”), the majority shareholder of MOBOTIX, was elected by the Supervisory Board of the company as its new chairman, following his appointment as new member of the supervisory board by the register court upon a motion by the company. At Konica Minolta, he is Executive Officer and Executive General Manager of Business Development Headquarters. The Management Board of MOBOTIX AG is looking forward to the collaboration with Yuji Ichimura. He succeeds Dr. Ralf Hinkel who has resigned at his own request from the Supervisory Board effective May 31. The Supervisory Board of MOBOTIX consists now of Yuji Ichimura, Kunihiro Koshizuka and Sabine Hinkel.

Poole: Tina Baker, Software Project Manager at Integrated security manufacturer TDSi will be addressing students as an Ambassador of STEM at the ‘Women in Engineering Day’ which is being held at the RNLI College in Poole in Dorset on 23rd June. The event, which has invited female pupils from local schools, is designed to promote and raise awareness of the opportunities for women in engineering.

I recently got to meet with security consultants who specialise in securing public transport systems. I took the opportunity and presented them the following question: what do you think is the likelihood of becoming a victim of violent crime in an urban transportations system? Their answers surprised me. One said the likelihood is 1 to 50, his friend noted it might be 1 to 100 and another speculated it is 1 to 1000.
