New security systems guide to help school officials ‘raise the alarm’

The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) has recently released a free guide to aid key decision makers within the education sector in understanding the benefits of installing intruder alarms, and other security systems, in order to safeguard schools.

Schools, and other educational establishments, face a number of security threats year round, including vandalism, arson attack and trespassers. As such, school officials have a duty of care to ensure that staff and student welfare is always a top priority, as well as a requirement to protect high value goods such as IT equipment, personal possessions and confidential personal and financial data.

The British Transport Police recently reported almost 3,000 instances over a twelve-month period, with common assaults soaring by over 39 per cent in the past five years. Many are blaming rail staff cuts for the increase in abuse, but it’s clear that more has to be done to protect both rail staff and members of the public.

British Security Industry Association endorses the national surveillance camera strategy for England and Wales

The Surveillance Camera Commissioner, Tony Porter, recently launched a national surveillance camera strategy for England and Wales, which has been endorsed by the British Security Industry Association.

James Kelly, Chief Executive of the BSIA, comments: “The strategy is a very worthy and successful attempt to draw together the multiple stakeholders across a diverse and critically important sector. The BSIA is proud to have been a contributor to the Commissioner’s efforts at providing direction and leadership on the appropriate use of such systems to secure the protection of our communities whilst protecting individuals’ rights to privacy.

Expert comment on Orange is the New Black hack

Variety reported the upcoming fifth season of Netflix's "Orange is the New Black" was leaked due to a security breach at Netflix's post production studio. The hacker is also threatening to release new episodes of shows from Fox, ABC and other networks who use the same third party vendor, with the potential loss of millions of dollars at stake.
