Education Security Advisory Programme launched to tackle crime & enhance compliance in schools and FE

NW Systems has announced the launch of a dedicated Education Security Advisory Programme. It is designed to ensure the effectiveness of security systems; to help institutions comply with the latest regulation; and to support institutions in the battle against growing levels of crime in schools. The launch is marked by two new appointments and the release of an education security white paper and technical checklist to help schools, academies and colleges stay compliant in the face of upcoming regulations. The announcement comes after the news that over 1,300 weapons were seized from schools in 2016-17, representing a 20% year-on-year rise.

HMS MONMOUTH SEIZES £65M OF HEROIN AND CANNABIS IN MAJOR DRUGS BUST

Royal Navy frigate HMS Monmouth has seized £65m of cannabis and heroin from a suspect vessel in the Indian Ocean, dealing a major blow to the funding of terrorism.

Sailors and Royal Marines from the Type 23 frigate destroyed 455kg of cannabis and 266kg of heroin after finding it hidden in the freezer of a fishing boat.

The suspicious dhow - a type of vessel common to the Middle East and Indian Ocean - had been spotted by the ship in an area not normally known for fishing.

WinMagic survey finds companies struggling to meet GDPR standards

A new survey from WinMagic, the encryption and intelligent key management security solution provider, asked IT leaders in the U.S., UK, Germany and France about their current data policies to see how well aligned they are with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR), which comes into force on May 25, 2018.
