Inspired Careers launches to help grow the Cyber Security talent pool

Developed with the UK Government as part of its National Cyber Security Programme, new careers hub aims to encourage people into the Cyber Security industry and keep them there

Launched this week by Digital Economy Minister Ed Vaizey, at Reform’s ‘Cyber security: assurance, resilience, response’ conference, the Inspired Careers website (www.inspiredcareers.org) has been designed to help address the cyber security skills shortage by attracting new people into the industry and providing professional career paths and opportunities. The site has been developed with funding from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) as part of the UK Government’s National Cyber Security Programme, with the support of CREST, the not for profit body that represents the technical information assurance industry.

How to justify your cyber security budget to management

Almost eight years ago, Bruce Schneier wrote a great article about the problems of ROI calculation for cybersecurity spending within organizations. Since then, both annual spending on cybersecurity and the cost of global cybercrime have significantly increased.

Despite that organizations increased their information security budgets by 24 percent in 2016, many security officers still have to justify to their management every extra thousand spent on cybersecurity. Traditionally, Europe is more conservative than US, and many more European security officers are asked to reduce their initial cybersecurity budgets by removing some items or replacing them with less expensive alternatives.

Alert: AppRiver warns of malicious macro phishing campaign impersonating UK winery

Yesterday, AppRiver identified a phishing campaign claiming to come for a UK winery - Les Caves De Pyrene. The attack began early around 10am UK and continued for four hours, targeting the inboxes of those just heading into work.
