A new report on banknote security features reveals that holograms will continue to play a central role of issuing authorities’ strategies to tackle counterfeiting and criminal activity.

The Diffractive Features on Banknotes report, produced by Currency Publications Ltd, traces the history over three decades of DOVID (Diffractive Optical Variable Image Device) technologies, which are used in their billions to authenticate notes and protect them against forgeries.

On Friday 31 May, G.W.E Security Ltd pleaded guilty at Paisley Sheriff Court to supplying unlicensed security guards to a construction site at Westmuir Street in Glasgow. The operations manager of G.W.E Security, David Scott also pleaded guilty.

The company was fined £1350 for providing an unlicensed security guard and David Scott was fined £450 having pleaded guilty to the same offence.

CoreRFID has supplied the UK's largest outsourcing company Serco with 100,000 RFID access cards for its Caledonian Sleeper railway service.

The cards will provide passengers with access to rooms and will improve security on routes between London and Scotland. 

The cards are completely re-usable and replace paper-based RFID tickets, which were judged to not be as cost effective in the long-term.
