In response to recent incidents of an increase in drink spiking and customers being injected with muscle relaxants, venues are being reminded to ensure all staff are aware of their responsibility when it comes to the vulnerability of customers and their role in enhancing safety and prevention, whilst customers are being reminded to stay alert, look after each other and not to leave drinks unattended.

More investment in anti-counterfeiting measures, urges IHMA

Government and law enforcement authorities are urged to step-up anti-counterfeiting measures following ‘disturbing ‘ reports about a surge in fake COVID cards.

In April of this year, 45 US attorney generals called on social media and tech companies to crack down on fraudulent vaccination cards known to be circulating online. In a letter to the CEOs of Twitter, Shopify and eBay, officials asked that companies take action to prevent the sales of fake vaccine cards on their platforms. ‘It has come to our attention that your platforms are being used to market and sell blank or fraudulently completed COVID vaccine cards bearing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention logo,’ the letter said.

Attackers will find routes into the cloud that start on your on-premises server

On-premises Active Directory (AD), Windows’ directory service, remains a wide open weak spot in most companies. As the core of Windows operating systems, AD manages user permissions and holds the key to numerous business-critical processes and services – but its default configuration makes it an easy target. While businesses are increasingly shifting workloads from on premises to the cloud, AD remains a foundational piece of infrastructure for both environments for 90% of organisations, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Cybercriminals know this and are increasingly using AD weaknesses as an inroad for attacks against data and applications in the cloud, thus bypassing classic cloud protection systems.
