The Middle East’s biggest modern disaster did not happen in 1948. It happened in 1979. A popular revolution overthrew the modernizing, secular Shah of Iran and replaced him with an atavistic theocracy. While some people living in the Shah’s Iran might have suffered from excessive human rights violations, the country was developing well, women had much freedom, and Iran was a fulcrum of stability in the region. All that ended in 1979.
A CALL TO CONSCIENCE, SELF-EXAMINATION, REFLECTION AND ACTION:
THINK YE THE FATHERS ARE REJOICING TODAY? NO! THEIR TEARS ARE CASCADING DOWN VERY PROFUSELY AS THE NIAGARA FALLS. SO, WHAT WENT WRONG? WHAT WENT WRONG WITH OUR NIGERIA? WHAT HAS GONE WRONG WITH NIGERIA? HOW DID WE MISS IT? HOW AND WHY DID WE LOSE THE PLOT? WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE NIGERIAN DREAM, THE NIGERIAN PROMISE AND THE NIGERIAN EXCEPTIONALISM? PLEASE, LET US PONDER AND LET EVERY NIGERIAN EXAMINE THEMSELF.
