MP Jo Johnson closed the 3 day Counter Terror and Homeland Security Summit, Securing Asia 2012 last week, addressing the vital issue of British business opportunities and interests in the Asian homeland security market. Speaking of the need to address the trade deficit, he cited the importance of improving the export competitiveness of UK firms, by getting them to turn and face more resolutely towards the fast growing Asian markets.

Jonathan Evans, the Director General of the Security Service, has given an address titled "The Olympics and Beyond" at the Lord Mayor’s inaugural annual Defence and Security Lecture. Speaking at the Mansion House, the official residence of the Lord Mayor of London, Mr. Evans highlighted MI5's security preparations for the Olympic Games and the continuing threat posed by terrorism. He also remarked on the increasing threat of cyber espionage and cyber crime. He concluded with the hope that by highlighting the issues for his audience, they would have a better and more accurate understanding of the nature and context of the security risks currently faced by their organisations and the UK
