Tampa, FL: Open XDR-as-a-Service leader ReliaQuest, in partnership with Ponemon Research, announced publication of a survey report detailing the needs and priorities of cybersecurity leaders in the United States and United Kingdom. The report, “Making Security Possible and Achieving a Risk-oriented Security Posture,” shows that organizations are prioritizing strategic security programs but missing the foundational capabilities they need to make meaningful changes to their security posture. Among the roadblocks to achieving a risk-oriented posture are ineffective security metrics, operational inefficiencies, and the lack of full visibility across their dynamic IT environment.

Comment: United Nations’ Computers Breached by Hackers Earlier This Year

It has been reported that hackers breached the United Nations’ computer networks earlier this year and made off with a trove of data that could be used to target agencies within the intergovernmental organisation. The hackers’ method for gaining access to the UN network appears to be unsophisticated: They likely got in using the stolen username and password of a UN employee purchased off the dark web. The credentials belonged to an account on the UN’s proprietary project management software, called Umoja. From there, the hackers were able to gain deeper access to the UN’s network, according to cybersecurity firm Resecurity, which discovered the breach. The earliest known date the hackers obtained access to the UN’s systems was April 5, and they were still active on the network as of Aug. 7.

Comment: Almost 80,000 myRepublic subscribers' data compromised

It has been reported that myRepublic says almost 80,000 of its mobile subscribers in Singapore have had their personal data compromised, following a security breach on a third-party data storage platform. The affected system had contained identity verification documents needed for mobile services registration, including scanned copies of national identity cards and residential addresses of foreign residents. The "unauthorised data access" incident was uncovered on August 29 and the relevant authorities had been informed of the breach, said MyRepublic in a statement Friday. It pointed industry regulator Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and Personal Data Protection Commission, which oversees the country's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).
