With the most recent British Crime Survey suggesting a 14% increase in burglary at homes across England and Wales in 2010-11[1], the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) has issued its top tips for home security.

As the summer holidays approach, many people across the country will be looking forward to getting away from it all, leaving their everyday lives behind and escaping to sunnier climes for a couple of weeks. However, leaving a property empty for any length of time exposes property and possessions to risk from opportunistic burglary, a risk that can be effectively minimised by the deployment of a few basic security measures.

I was fortunate to represent such great citizens as you for 13 years in Congress. You were so well informed on all the issues, in part because of the fantastic work of the Commonwealth Club and, of course, Dr. Duffy. All of us are safer today due to Gloria’s efforts while working at the Pentagon to secure and eliminate dangerous weapons throughout the former Soviet Union after the Cold War.
