Over 1 in 5 people who work in bed spend 14 hours a week doing so and admit to checking their emails before kissing their partner!
London: Can’t sleep? Are you one of the 29% of people who look at emails and catch up on work whilst lying in bed? These are the statistics released today by Infosecurity Europe who polled 1000 commuters in London and found that almost a third of people work in bed with 15% tapping away at their computers or smartphones at the same time as their partner. Three quarters of those that work in bed admit to spending more than 30 minutes a day, that’s three and half hours a week on work and 22% spend more than two hours a day working in bed – amounting to an extra 14 hours a week.
Is romance dead with Smartphones dominating our lives?
When the survey respondents were asked about the first thing they do when they wake up in the morning top of the list for 32% of people was to check their phone for messages, with kissing their partner scoring a lowly 6%! Brushing their teeth at 19% comes before checking emails at 14%.
Claire Sellick, Event Director for Infosecurity Europe said: “The smartphone has had a massive impact on the way we behave and these figures reveal that is has even had an impact on our behaviour in the bedroom. However, another key issue that is highlighted is just how dependent we are on our smartphones – in both our personal and professional lives. It is therefore increasingly important these devices are heavily protected to ensure any data stored on them does not fall into the wrong hands.”
Sellick added: “When people cannot sleep the most popular activity was to watch TV (23%), followed by a fifth who start reading a book, a sixth go online and a 10th turn to social media or check emails. Having a cup of tea was the least popular option.”
