Rolling Meadows, IL, USA:The demand for ISACA’s Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) certification continues to grow and salaries for this designation have increased significantly. Beginning with the June 2013 exam, ISACA is updating the rigorous CGEIT exam to reflect the evolving role of governance professionals and to remain current with their required knowledge.
ISACA, a nonprofit association of more than 100,000 IT professionals worldwide, conducts an international job practice analysis at least every five years for each of its certifications, and the real-world job demands and descriptions form the basis of each exam.
Since its introduction in 2007, the CGEIT credential has become recognized worldwide as a symbol of excellence in IT governance, and has been earned by nearly 5,400 professionals. In the October 2012 IT Skills and Certifications Pay Index (IT SCPI), a report from the independent Foote Partners LLC, the CGEIT certification was noted for gaining 25% in average market value between July and September 2012. Most recently the 2013 IT SCPI named CGEIT among the highest-paying IT certifications.
The CGEIT credential, which has received accreditation under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024 from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), focuses on:
Framework for the Governance of Enterprise IT
Strategic Management
Benefits Realization
Risk Optimization
Resource Optimization
“Conducting regular job practice analyses ensures that ISACA’s certification exams accurately reflect the responsibilities and expectations of today’s IT governance, assurance and security professionals,” said Allan Boardman, CISA, CISM, CGEIT, CRISC, ACA, CISSP, CA(SA), chair of ISACA’s Credentialing and Career Management Board. “The increased pay premium of the CGEIT certification demonstrates that governance professionals are needed and valued within enterprises worldwide.”
The new CGEIT job practice aligns with COBIT 5, ISACA’s framework for governance and management of enterprise IT. Major changes to the CGEIT job practice include:
The integration of performance measurement tasks
The integration of domain 6 (Performance Measurement) of the previous job practice into the benefits realization domain of the revised job practice
The increase of questions that test risk management/optimization (increased from 20% to 24%)
ISACA also has updated the requirements for achieving the CGEIT certification after passing the exam. Changes include:
The experience waivers that were once permitted for holding other certifications or related degrees will no longer be allowed under the new job practice, due to the experience that candidates are expected to have.
The modified requirement under domain 1 (Framework for the Governance of Enterprise IT) requires the CGEIT to help ensure that an IT governance framework has been properly defined, established and managed. Within the previous job practice, individuals were required to be involved with the development or maintenance of an IT governance framework.
