Paris, France and Copenhagen, Denmark: Qosmos, the market leader in embedded DPI and Napatech, the world's largest vendor of intelligent adapters for network monitoring and analysis, has provided details on the new Qosmos DeepFlow™ Telecom probe, a pre-configured analytics appliance ideal for telecom solution providers who need to perform big data analysis on high-speed mobile data for service assurance and optimization.
“The proliferation of smart mobile devices is leading to increased data usage and more advanced services”, stated Thibaut Bechetoille, CEO Qosmos. “Video streaming will be responsible for a large portion of data, but we will also see voice over LTE and other time-sensitive services mixed with business and entertainment applications. We can already see that mobile subscribers are responding with exponential growth in data usage. Carriers realize that this situation needs to be managed to assure service performance and optimize service offerings.”
The DeepFlow Telecom appliance combines Qosmos Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) capabilities with Napatech intelligent network adapters to provide rich, real-time input for big data analysis of mobile network data. Qosmos technology provides the most comprehensive protocol and metadata analysis in the industry while Napatech network adapters ensure guaranteed packet capture at core network speeds. In addition, the nanosecond precision time-stamping capabilities of Napatech network adapters allow precise measurement of jitter and delay in mobile networks, which is important for service assurance.
“Qosmos and Napatech have worked together to provide an optimized, pre-integrated mobile analytics probe”, stated Henrik Brill Jensen, CEO Napatech. “Our engineering teams have ensured that Qosmos DPI software has been optimized to take full benefit of the acceleration features that Napatech network adapters provide, leading to a powerful and scalable appliance.”
“Data analysis is the starting point for service assurance and optimization”, continued Jensen”. As Ethernet and IP networks are bursty and dynamic in nature, data must be collected in real-time and at high-speed. Data integrity and completeness are essential for effective analysis. It is therefore important that all data is captured and inspected without packet loss before being presented for big data analysis. This is what Napatech network adapters ensure.”
Qosmos software can recognize 1100 protocols and extract 6000 metadata types including applications that often try to avoid detection. Regular updates to this library ensure that users can stay ahead of the game.
“With the powerful L7 intelligence that we provide, it is not only possible to understand what is happening in a mobile network and react to it, but also to optimize the service offerings”, added Bechetoille.
Napatech provides a complete portfolio of intelligent network adapters supporting speeds from 10 Mbps to 40 Gbps. Advanced data pre-processing features can identify flows based on well-known network protocols including tunneling protocols commonly used in mobile networks, such as GTP. Intelligent distribution can direct these flows to up to 32 server CPU cores. This allows Qosmos DPI software to scale performance by adding more CPU cores supporting data speeds up to 40 Gbps.
