Espoo, Finland: Navigil TD230 combines multi-dimensional geofencing with smart embedded processing while minimizing back-end server resource requirements
Navigil, an original design manufacturer of programmable GNSS tracking devices for intelligent track and trace applications, today unveiled the new Navigil TD230 OEM Tracker, a uniquely versatile white-label wireless tracking device. The small and ultra-low power-consuming device is programmable to enable a wide range of track and trace applications including personal safety, fleet management, vehicle black boxes, on-board diagnostics and insurance telematics.
While most tracking devices on the market continuously send out massive amounts of raw data for back-end processing, the Navigil TD230 independently prompts pre-set actions and only sends out relevant data. As an example, mounted in cars and motorcycles, the device is able to store key datasets before and after accidents, independently alert of collisions, and automatically send reports to insurance companies.
The embedded intelligence and processing capability of the Navigil TD230 decrease the need for power consuming and expensive wireless data traffic while significantly reducing the need for back-end server resources. Thanks to Navigil’s unique software development kit (SDK), the devices are fully customizable and over-the-air (OTA) updatable for firmware, parameters and system scripts. The approach reduces typical time-to-market from several months to just weeks.
“Intelligent tracking leaves fewer things to fortune. Tracking devices with embedded processing capability significantly decrease the cost and reduce the time to market of innovative new tracking applications,” said Matti Räty, President and CEO, Navigil. “In-device processing enables cost-efficient provision of solutions that make use of multi-dimensional geofencing and adaptive reporting granularity.”
The TD230 can survive long periods of time without external power while it still periodically communicates with a server. The low-power hardware design, intelligent sleep logic and decreased need for wireless data traffic contribute to the TD230’s minimal battery drain of 200 uA at 3.7 V DC. Wakeup from a power saving mode can be triggered by a scheduled event, mechanical motion or an external input.
The Navigil TD230 adds new dimensions to geofencing with simultaneous use of up to 5,000 circular geofences or up to 200 complex polygon geofences of different shapes and sizes. Basic geofences are complemented with additional dimensions based on time, speed and direction. In-device intelligence enables launching alerts and functional scripts within the tracker device, based on a single criteria or a combination of several.
