Once the beloved son of the League, but now the world’s number one murderer, sad Assad President of Syria who has presided over the killings of over 3, 500 of his compatriots was yesterday told to go to hell by his erstwhile colleagues in the Arab League who has just begun to combine the onerous tasks of barking and biting, two important virtues which were totally lacking in the League hitherto. See one of the many benefits of the Arab Spring?
Arising from their meeting in Cairo yesterday, the League took a strong and historic stance aimed at stopping the violence in Syria and protecting Syrian civilians.
In its reaction to the new found ‘fire’ in the heart of the League the United States has joined many conscientious nations in the world to commend what it regarded as “ the principled stand taken by the Arab League” and supported full implementation of its efforts to bring a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
Hilary Rodham Clinton, the U.S. Secretary of State said: “The failure of the Assad regime, once again, to heed the call of regional states and the international community underscores the fact that it has lost all credibility.”
Secretary Clinton added: “The United States reiterates its calls for an immediate end to the violence, for free unfettered access for human rights monitors and journalists to deter and document grave human rights abuses and for Assad to step aside so a peaceful transition can begin. As today's Arab League decision demonstrates, the international pressure will continue to build until the brutal Assad regime heeds the calls of its own people and the world community.”
The fire of the Arab Spring was lit on Saturday December 18th, 2010, first by the Tunisians and then spread all over the Arab nations. It is not unlikely that those States that are now deciding the fate of Syria will sooner or later be engulfed by the fire of the revolution as it is still raging!
