Staff at the Unipart Security Monitoring and Response Centre (MARC) were called into action recently as they stopped a potentially damaging attack on one of their customer’s sites. The detector activated CCTV system, which was installed by Ashton Under Lyne-based NU Fire and Security, is monitored at the Unipart Security’s state of the art MARC based at the group headquarters in Cowley, Oxfordshire.
Unusually, the attack on the protected premises occurred during the normal working day, but the CCTV system at this site is armed 24/7 and it was following an activation received at around 1030 that the MARC saw 2 men entering the site. The intruders then proceeded to smash one of the windows to the building, entering the site and disappearing from view.
The MARC controller contacted the police, who arrived at the site within minutes of the call. The controller was also able to inform the Police control room of the exact location of the entry to the building and the 2 officers positioned themselves outside the broken window. It didn’t take long for the offenders to reappear, exiting the window only to land straight into the open arms of one of the waiting Police Officers!
Simon Jennings, Senior Manager for Unipart Security commented “The CCTV system installed by NU Fire and Security did its job on this day and it was due to the diligence of the MARC staff that this attack during normal working hours was thwarted. The MARC staff worked as a team during this incident and it is to their credit that an outcome like this was achieved”.
