Switchnet deploys video analytics solution to help The Snow Centre deliver the best customer experience

UK: MOBOTIX AG, a leading manufacturer of digital high-resolution, network-based video security systems has released details of an innovative installation by Switchnet Systems using innovative video analytics technology to help the UK’s premier indoor skiing and snowboarding centre improve efficiency.

The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead is using revolutionary MxAnalytics in-camera video analytics technology, developed by MOBOTIX, to conduct real-time analysis of how visitors to the Centre use key facilities across different times of the day, week, month and year. The system deployed by Switchnet, an Advanced MOBOTIX Partner, has been operational for 2 weeks and has tracked 1500 visitors with 85 - 90% accuracy.

For security, health and safety requirements; the Centre has 40 MOBOTIX cameras covering its indoor ski slopes, bar, restaurant, shops and viewing areas. Utilising an existing Q24 camera covering its main entrance, the Snow Centre is now using MxAnalytics software to automatically count how many people visit the centre and determine where they initially go within the facility. This aggregated data will also be used for trending and forecasting which is vital for ensuring adequate staffing levels and resource allocation.

The system provides detailed reports to senior management at the Snow Centre, and as Managing Director Ian Brown explains, “We pride ourselves on providing a secure venue that meets the expectations of our guests in terms of facilities and service. The use of analytics will allow us to accurately analyze the flow of guests and also enable us to make improvements to the customer experience. We can also use the data to potentially reposition certain features and as an aid to creating new promotions.”

Brown points to the ability to gauge the success of any changes, “We can also see the results of any initiatives on the resulting footfall and as the system continues, the long term trending potential will help us to better manage our staffing levels and seasonal activities” he adds.

The new analytics solution implemented by Switchnet requires no additional hardware as the technology is embedded within the camera. Gregg Pike, Operations Director for Switchnet Systems adds, “This is the second installation we have completed that is benefiting from the new In-Camera analytics technology and we have a number of other projects that are in proof on concept stage.” Switchnet was also responsible for the complete wireless network, IPTV network, VOIP system and high-speed LAN at the facility which was installed in 2009 in just 4 months.
