Policing and Criminal Justice Minister Nick Herbert last week visited West Yorkshire to hear about the work of local police to tackle crime through partnership working.
The Minister visited a Community Safety Partnership in Wakefield to hear how police are working with the local authority and alcohol intervention team to tackle alcohol-related crime and community safety issues more effectively and efficiently.
And he saw first hand how neighbourhood police officers in the Chapeltown area of Leeds have been able to engage with members of the community they previously found hard to reach thanks to the pioneering work of the Chapeltown Youth Development Centre. Led by chairman Lutel James, the centre works with hundreds of local young people and plays an active part in diverting them away from crime.
Vigilance learnt the the Minister also met with Chief Constable Sir Norman Bettison, the West Yorkshire Police Authority and the Leeds Drugs and Offender Management Unit.
