Today, global IT association ISACA highlighted a number of key sessions to be held at its annual Information Security and Risk Management (ISRM) Europe conference, including unveiling its keynote speaker. With sessions examining data protection, PCI, cloud computing, auditing, advanced persistent threats and more, the agenda for the 14-16 November event in Barcelona deals with enterprises’ nightmares—and how to protect against them.
With security part of the greater discipline of governance, this year’s ISRM agenda has been designed to deliver that fresh perspective with speakers sharing what they learnt from many deployments and services around the world. Covering many aspects of the security environment (from designing a security program and overseeing the deployment of awareness training to getting management to sign off on projects), ISRM Europe will focus on providing value to business¾from the inside out.
The three-day agenda kicks off with a keynote session from Javier Garcia de Castro, director of Security Business for Telefónica. This thought-provoking session titled “Security in a Globalised, Ever-Changing World” sets the benchmark for the exceptional educational opportunity ISRM imparts to attendees. Drawing on his own experience, Garcia de Castro will explain how one of the world’s leading integrated operators in the telecommunication sector came to understand the shift in perception in today’s businesses and is building a worldwide network of security operation centers that provides a robust security platform. Setting the scene for the rest of the event, this keynote presentation will cover the need to understand the changing global security landscape and how to be prepared to mitigate risk in real time.
Ramsés Gallego, CISM, CGEIT, security strategist and evangelist at Quest Software and member of ISACA's Guidance & Practices Committee explains, “There has been a shift in perception of the security discipline from the board and executive management. We need to move from technology risk to enterprise risk and fully understand the new technologies within our reach, such as identity intelligence, cloud computing, social media and geolocation. With a great program, and fantastic set of speakers, all of these dimensions will be featured at ISRM in Barcelona. We are not living through an epoch of changes, but the change of an epoch, and we need to get up-to-speed in the security arena. No doubt ISRM will facilitate that.”
Jeremy King, European director for the PCI Security Standards Council and a speaker at ISRM Europe, added, “Security has to be part of your everyday business. Good security is not just about technology but the people and processes working with that technology - to protect against today's threats to your data, you must build security into all of your business operations.”
Attendees not only will be able to attend relevant presentations but also to learn from real-world experiences. Gallego concluded, “Each and every year, ISRM goes beyond the theoretical knowledge and gets into the expertise gained in the field. ISRM Europe 2011 is no different. Speakers have been requested and are willing to share lessons learned from their experiences at enterprises around the world so attendees can use their tested and tried guidance in their own organizations.”
