In relation to a recent report from the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, which says that the US industry stands to lose $35 billion amid the PRISM fallout, Dwayne Melancon, CTO, Tripwire, says:
"This prediction underscores the value of trust in information security. Many people move to the cloud for cost efficiency, availability, and resiliency but once you begin to doubt the integrity and confidentiality of those services, you find out quickly what's most important to you in a business partner.
"This one will not go away easily. It will be difficult for cloud providers to 'position their way out of this,' particularly because their customers are now far more skeptical of how these providers will handle their data. Furthermore, it may be tempting to move to non-US providers, but how can you be certain that other governments aren't engaged in the same kind of surveillance within their own countries?"
