Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics has expanded its portfolio of hazmat personal protective equipment (PPE) for emergency response, chemical, and industrial situations, beyond ONESuit® Pro gas-tight suits for the highest level of protection against liquid and airborne chemicals, through the introduction of the ONESuit Shield Level B Splash Suit. To further meet clients’ requirements, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics has also extended customer support throughout ten countries in Europe.
The ONESuit range of chemical-protective equipment is known for its ease of wear and durability, providing maximum protection and comfort. The ONESuit® Shield Level B Splash Suit features an open-face design with the self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) worn outside the suit, to protect emergency responders from the effects of chemical biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) incidents and to allow the user to remain inside the suit until operations are complete. The Level B Splash Suit is NFPA 1994 Class 2 and NFPA 1992 certified. Also showcased is the ONESuit® Pro hazmat suit certified to meet the chemical permeation and resistance requirements of EN943, NFPA1991 and NFPA 1994 and now also approved for maritime use with Type II-2 SOLAS certification.
Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics has also strengthened its European customer support presence to fully meet first responder and other user requirements, from providing initial technical expertise in selecting the correct level of PPE to maintaining the equipment to ensure maximum chemical- and biological-protection. It has achieved this through developing a distributor network made up of well-known industry PPE experts such as PPS in UK, TEES in France and Vorndamme in Germany. This network of specialists will now offer full support and advice to emergency responders, within firefighting, chemical and industrial industries across Europe.
“We continuously work to expand the high-level protection for hazmat professionals who also seek exceptional comfort and enhanced mobility when performing in hazardous and uncertain situations”, said Ian Hutcheson, Market Manager, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics. “We have engineered a range of PPE and containment solutions to meet our customers’ toughest requirements which is supported by our network of experts throughout Europe”.
Hutcheson continued, “Our Coretech barrier membrane technology provides permeation resistance to more than 100 chemicals including biological and chemical warfare agents and can be incorporated in a range of materials to achieve performance exceeding the industry standard norms for such functionalities as abrasion, puncture and flame resistance”.
Examples of the use of Coretech in other chemical- and biological-protective equipment include the Coretech® ShelterGuard, a lightweight, single fabric layer to reduce set-up and tear-down times for protective shelters, military expedition tents and medical treatment units; Coretech® HydroGuard, which is used for CamelBak, a chemically and biologically resistant reservoir for potable water supplies and hands-free hydration; and Coretech® EnviroGuard, which is used in protective containers and membranes for the handling and storage of petro-chemicals.
The solutions, based on Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics’ patented Coretech® barrier membrane, will be on display at the A+A international trade show, in Düsseldorf, Germany, 18-21 October 2011 - Hall 07, Booth E17
