Three of the most popular SANS courses to debut in Johannesburg from 29th October to 3rd November 2012
Following increased demand from across the region, SANS Institute, the world’s largest provider of hands-on technical security training, has announced that it will be running its first full training conference in South Africa this October. SANS South Africa 2012 will take place at the Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel in Johannesburg and will include courses covering essential security best practice, hacker techniques and computer forensics.
As Craig Rosewarne, Director EMEA - Africa region, for the SANS Institute explains, “The event will provide information security and computer forensic professionals in South Africa with the chance to experience the highly-rated, technical, and hands on training that SANS is known to offer. SANS has some of the best instructors in the industry who will impart their knowledge and incorporate their own real-life experience.”
The SANS South Africa 2012 will include its highly popular Security 401: SANS Security Essentials Bootcamp Style. “Our Bootcamp attracts the widest and most diverse group of students of any of our courses, “ explains SANS Instructor Jim Herbeck, “It makes the 401 an amazing environment to teach and learn within as each session tends to adapt to the make-up of the participating group.” Security Essentials attracts students from public and private sectors and across almost every industry from both technical and business focused areas.
SANS Certified Instructor James Tarala will be teaching the SANS Security 504: Hacker Techniques, Exploits & Incident Handling. The six day course is aimed at helping information security professionals understand attackers' tactics and strategies with hands-on experience in finding vulnerabilities and discovering intrusions. The course is designed to equip IT professionals with a comprehensive incident handling plan and the legal issues associated with responding to computer attacks, including employee monitoring, working with law enforcement, and handling evidence.
FOR408: Computer Forensic Investigations - Windows In-Depth will be taught by Jess Garcia for the first time in South Africa. The course will teach critical techniques to help investigators and incident response team’s deal with cybercrime including fraud, insider threat, industrial espionage, and phishing. In addition, government agencies are now performing media exploitation to recover key intelligence kept on adversary systems. In order to help solve these cases, organisations are hiring digital forensic professionals and calling cybercrime law enforcement agents to piece together what happened in these cases.
“The rise of cyber-crime and computer related fraud is truly an international concern, “comments Rosewarne, “The debut of a full SANS training course in South Africa is part of a wider recognition that as the leading economy in Africa we are a clear target. We however wish to develop a strategic resource of skilled IT security professionals that can potentially combat the growing danger.
