It is with sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce the death of a soldier from 1st Battalion, The Royal Welsh on 26th May 2012.
The soldier was on a patrol providing security in the Nahr-e Saraj region of HelmandProvince when the vehicle in which he was travelling was caught in the blast from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Major Ian Lawrence, said: “It is with great sadness I must inform you that a soldier from 1st Battalion, The Royal Welsh has died of wounds sustained in an IED strike while on a mobile patrol in the Nahr-e Saraj District of HelmandProvince.
“The thoughts and prayers of all in the Task Force are with his family and friends at this sad time.”
The soldier’s family has been informed and have asked for a 24 hour period of grace before further details are released.
