Another hacking group – nicknamed FIN4 - has been identified and apparently consists of native English speakers with "deep familiarity with business deals and corporate communications, and their effects on financial markets." FIN4’s targets seem to be top executives, legal counsel, and others who may have insider knowledge about possible acquisitions and mergers.
Following this news, Mark Sparshott, EMEA Director at Proofpoint has given the following says:
“Advanced malware phishing attacks will inevitably increase in volume in 2015 because they remain the key to the kingdom for both cybercriminal and state sponsored hacking groups. These attackers use believable phishing emails to fool recipients into visiting a website infected with advanced malware which is invisible to the user and undetectable by the Anti-Virus and other security software that organisations mistakenly continue to rely on. Some industry leading organisations have already started to deploy cloud-based advanced malware protection to neutralise the majority of these attacks and expedite discovery & remediation for those that get through. Unfortunately the vast majority of organisations remain wide open to advanced phishing which is why Proofpoint believe these headline grabbing, phishing generated breaches will continue to be a weekly occurrence throughout 2015.”
