In May, the Swedish capital will host four SANS security training courses including two specialist courses in SEC579: Virtualisation and Private Cloud Security and DEV522: Defending Web Applications Security Essentials.
From the 9th to the 14th of May, the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel will welcome students from across Europe for SANS instructor led, classroom style courses. With the quantity and importance of data entrusted to web applications growing, DEV522: Defending Web Applications Security Essentials teaches a skill set designed to secure these critical apps.
Certified SANS instructor and course author Jason Lam is a specialist in Web application security, penetration testing, and intrusion detection and holds many GIAC Certifications. According to Lam, the defensive perimeter needs to extend far beyond just the coding aspects of web applications. "Securing web applications is difficult as there are so many different areas that need to be considered - architecture, encryption, access control just to name a few. Our DEV522 class walks students through all the areas of concern to ensure they master the defensive actions to properly secure web application,” Lam explains.
The six day course includes areas such as Web Application Common Vulnerabilities and Mitigations, Proactive Defense and Operation Security and concludes with a Capture and Defend the Flag Exercise. Says Lam, “We make sure students can acquire the knowledge they need to secure their applications once they finish the class.”
