Of a truth her Royal Majesty is a rewarder of British companies that are highly innovative, hence Berkshire based IT security company, SecurEnvoy was last week at the just concluded Infosecurity Europe 2011 Exhibition held at Earl’s Court in London between the 19th and 21st of April named as one of the few elite British companies to win a Queen’s Award, heralding them as one of the most successful UK businesses to receive the much coveted award in Britain.
SecurEnvoy are delighted to trumpet they have been selected from thousands of companies across the UK, for the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise making them one of less than 200 companies to receive the most coveted business award in the country in 2011.
Rarely if ever, has an IT security company ever won this award, especially in the innovation category for the “continuous development of a two-factor authentication system for high-level security applications.”
Vigilance learnt that the award entitles SecurEnvoy to use the Queen’s Awards Emblem on all their marketing for five years.
SecurEnvoy was set up in 2003 after Andrew Kemshall and Steve Watts recognised a gap in the marketplace for tokenless 2 factor authentication using SMS technology. They then began their business with preliminary coding and testing in their own labs based in their garages, convinced with the idea that users were after an easy alternative to tokens for 2 factor authentication. They devised a unique concept enabling a cost-effective 2 factor authentication solution relying on SMS technology providing encryption anywhere, anyplace on any mobile device. Eight years later and the fruits of their labour have been recognized by the highest representatives in the land, as well 700 happy customers across five continents. Commercially the business has been a tremendous success with turnover more than doubling year on year.
Andrew Kemshall, Technical Director and Co-founder said: “This is the happiest day of our lives. Running any business has it’s up and down’s but at last we really feel that our efforts have been recognized which is thanks to the quality of people and the experience within the company, as well as a truly loyal and dedicated customer following.”
While his co-founder Steve Watts enthused: “We are very proud to have received this award, especially as there are literally just a handful of home-grown IT security companies in the UK. It’s also means so much to us to be able to help shape the way of security for potentially millions of people now looking for authentication, not only in the UK, but right across the globe with as much business being done outside of the UK than within it.
SecurEnvoy uses mobile phone text messages as an important identification method to help access secure data using 2 factor authentication. It incorporates technology, which connects with a variety of mobile phone networks, and copes with problems associated with delays in sending and receiving text messages and with inconsistencies of signal availability. Relative to alternatives, the systems is less complex to control and cheaper to operate.
***They will receive the award formally by the Lord-Lieutenant of the County and then presented with the Grant of Appointment at Her Majesty The Queen’s Reception at Buckingham Palace on 14th July 2011.
