Professor George Spanoudakis to lead an international research team into Cloud security.
Vigilance can report that the Software Engineering Group at City University London's School of Informatics, has won a new EU research grant, named CUMULUS (Certification Infrastructure for MUlti-Layer cloUd Services), to develop new models for the assessment and certification of security in the infrastructure, platform and software services of Cloud platforms.
A source at the School of Informatics said the research would also investigate the legal aspects of Cloud certification in collaboration with the City Law School.
Vigilance learnt that the €3m project would run from October 2012 to September 2015, and provide funding in excess of €380k for City.
Prof George Spanoudakis, the principal investigator of the City team and technical coordinator of the whole project, said: "Research into the certification of Cloud security services is extremely timely and significant as it addresses increasing public concerns regarding the confidentiality, integrity and privacy of data held in fast-spreading Cloud environments.”
Professor Spanoudakis enthused: “City is proud to be part of an international team of excellent research institutions and industrial partners across Europe which will carry out a research programme to influence cloud security certification technology and make significant contributions to standards.”
