Comment by security specialist Check Point on the news that UPS has suffered a data breach as a result of a malware attack.
Commenting on the breach at UPS Keith Bird, Managing Director UK for security specialist Check Point, said: “Our 2014 Security Report analysed security events from over 10,000 organisations worldwide, across a range of industry sectors and found that malware was downloaded to networks every 10 minutes in 84% of firms last year. 58% experienced users downloading malware every two hours or less, compared with just 14% the previous year. So it’s no surprise that in some cases, malware is able to get through to networks.
Unsurprisingly the number of organisations seeing data loss incidents also increased – up to 88% compared with 54% last year. This highlights the need to have a multi-layered security strategy to reduce the risk of infections and breaches.”
