London (UK): Information security consultancy MWR InfoSecurity has outlined details of two challenges for attendees of this week’s 44CON London IT Security Conference. The event, aimed at those in the information security sector, takes place this Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th September at London’s ILEC Conference Centre (47 Lillie Road, SW6 1UD.)
To set the scene ahead of the conference, MWR has set a pre-event challenge that involves finding the way through a logic gate maze. Competitors then mustn’t fold during a crypto challenge and, cryptically, any one able to ‘come up diamonds might just ace themselves a schwag bag.’
The devious puzzle setters also suggest visitors might want to keep ‘their eyes peeled’ once the 44CON doors have opened if they want to tackle its event challenge. This year encryption is ‘all around’ as attendees are asked to demonstrate their skills through codes, memory, malware and certificates in a journey to the prize! Anyone hoping to bag the title of Challenge Winner and walk away with a quadcopter, are advised to ‘bring along their reverse engineering A-game’
Speaking about MWR’s support, 44CON organiser - Adrian, said: “As one of the sponsors that made the first 44CON in 2011 possible, we are incredibly grateful for both MWR’s financial contribution and the quality of the talks they have submitted over the years. The MWR team always bring lots of fun to the 44CON conference and this year will be no different with its event challenges and drinks at the end of the two days. We plan to continue our partnership with MWR, so here’s to the next five years!”
MWR’s technical director - Martyn Ruks, added, “44CON London is always a special event in the IT Security calendar and we’re happy to offer our support again this year. Events like this are increasingly crucial, bringing the security community together to share intelligence, swap ideas and further hone skills to combat today’s diverse threatscape, wrapped up in a bit of fun. We’re particularly looking forward to see how people tackle our challenges this year as we’ve been scheming away to make them as devious as possible – the winner of each challenge will have to possess serious skills plus employ lateral thinking if they’re to be victorious.”
