Vigilance can confirm that Detectives investigating an attack on the man who is shortly to take up the post of Governor of Bermuda, yesterday made an arrest.
A police source said the robber was arrested at approximately 18.30hrs, evening of Sunday 22 April.
The man, aged 29 was said to have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and is now in custody at a west London police station.
Mr George Fergusson, 56, was assaulted and robbed at around 19:30hrs on Friday 20 April, while walking in Margravine Cemetery and Park, also known as Hammersmith Cemetery, in Hammersmith W6.
According to police report Fergusson, of Lambeth, made his own way to New Charing Cross Hospital, and was later transferred to the Western Eye Hospital NW1.
Fergusson who was discharged yesterday is reported to have suffered facial injuries and had lost sight in his left eye.
A police spokesperson said a small quantity of cash was taken, adding at this stage, officers are satisfied that robbery was the sole motive.
Officers from Hammersmith & Fulham Priority Crime Unit are currently investigating.
The suspect is described as black and around 5'10" tall. He wore a dark-hooded top and dark glasses.
