PixAlert has introduced integrated, optical character recognition (OCR) capability to their portfolio of enterprise content audit solutions. This latest innovation allows organizations to easily detect and extract text from often difficult to find image files including scanned documents (PDFs), sensitive data captured in screen shots and image formats (BMP, JPEG, PNG, TIFF).
PixAlert’s new OCR platform helps to provide accurate visibility of sensitive data stored within image documents which, if left exposed, could undermine and seriously damage an organization’s compliance, security and reputational status.
Gerard Curtin, CEO of PixAlert said ‘Compliance requirements like PCI DSS and Data Protection Legislation are driving businesses to ensure that they can readily detect where sensitive data like personally identifiable information (PII) and credit card data (CHD) is stored on networks. This necessitates being able to comprehensively and accurately detect all ‘at risk’ content residing across entire data repositories. Mr Curtin continued ‘we recently audited a client’s network containing 100,000 image files and discovered that 35% of scanned documents contained unsecured credit card data which represents a significant risk if left unresolved. As IT environments evolve, organizations seek scalable solutions like automated OCR which can be tailored to meet specific discovery requirements to further bolster security’.
