Rich Smith, Director of R&D, Duo Security says: "The fact that politicians are being targeted in phishing campaigns leading up to major domestic events is not surprising given the well documented body of evidence of exactly the same modes of attack being used in the recent US and French elections among others. It’s the reality of 21st century politics that cyber security best practices and awareness are a key part of any political campaign and need to be taken seriously to ensure fair political processes. It would be more surprising I think if the NCSC didn’t issue such guidance."

Details of thousands of medical staff in Wales have been stolen from a private contractor's computer server. Names, dates of birth, radiation doses and National Insurance numbers of staff who work with X-rays were copied as hackers accessed Landauer's system.

Ellsberg: Trump Threats to WikiLeaks "Nuclear Option" Against the First Amendment

Statement by Daniel Ellsberg, Pentagon Papers whistleblower: "Obama having opened the legal campaign against the press by going after the roots of investigative reporting on national security -- the sources -- Trump is going to go after the gatherers/gardeners themselves (and their bosses, publishers). To switch the metaphor, an indictment of Assange is a 'first use' of 'the nuclear option' against the First Amendment protection of a free press. (By the way, the charges they're reportedly considering against him -- conspiracy, theft, and violation of the Espionage Act -- are exactly the charges I faced in 1971.)

Matt Lock, Director of Sales Engineer at Varonis comments: “A lot of organisations like to think they don’t have insider threats, but often at times it’s the loud intrusion of ransomware that is alerting an organisation to over-exposed, unmonitored permissions and data. When a user / employee with excessive permissions to data across the network is infected and the ransomware spreads to every file to which that user has access, organisations cannot ignore the crippling effects of hijacked data. In this case, it’s not just the administrative and executive staff affected, doctors and patients have no access to the resources they need to provide timely and effective medical care. This cyberattack on a rapidly growing list of NHS Trusts is shining a big, bright spotlight on the holes in their defences. If ransomware can temporarily halt productivity and medical care due to overexposed permissions, you can only imagine what a malicious insider or external actor with co-opted credentials can do to your organisation and how long they can go undetected.
