Qatar, Turkey and Africa: Who's Doing What To Whom and Why?
Qatar’s Emir landed recently in Senegal at the start of a six-nation tour to West Africa as Doha seeks out new markets in Africa. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s is expected to visit Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea, Mali and Senegal.
On the other side; Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also will pay official visits to Sudan, Chad and Tunisia between Dec. 25 and 27, according to presidential sources.
This may be "historic" for Africa. However, as diplomats rarely mean what they say, and their words are a bit of a cliche in their lexicon. However, this time, it may be true that Riyadh also will probably pay a similar visit to Africa in the next few weeks in order to manage their domestic and regional conflicts.
As conflict behavior manifests a series of subphases in the balancing of powers, and as the Middle East has never been a simple place. Yet nowadays, this region is especially turbulent; with waves rocking several regions and countries, so big that their effects are being felt worldwide, including Africa. Hence, I just hope that Africa won't be dragged into such conflicts like the African soldiers that dragged into Europe's war during World War One!
